Pros

-There was a great and passionate group of junior staff working there for a long time, but they have all found better opportunities now -You will have to learn how to manage multiple projects at once because they are so understaffed you will be expected to do everything -You will learn how to manage up, as your manager will most likely quit soon after you are hired, and you will be expected to fill a bigger role with no compensation increase -You will have a lot to talk about in your next interviews because you will be part of every project's process from start to finish -You will learn to understand your personal work-life balance needs/boundaries, but only as they are consistently broken and ignored.

Cons

-Lack of organization means you will spend more time trying to find past information than being able to make progress -Your job description means nothing, once you are on board anything is fair game -No strategic plan or set goals, however you will be reprimanded for not reaching the imaginary goals that were supposedly there all along -Consistently set up for failure, whether by upper management deciding not to do projects last minute you put a lot of time/hard work into or giving you impossible tasks to begin with -"Family-oriented workplace" is a term tossed around to help cover the toxic and hostile environment that upper management creates. The longer you work there, the meaner they become. The first few months are a honeymoon phase that will not last.

Pros

Lots of real-world writing and research experience, and opportunities to focus on personal writing passions. Loved that I could do the internship remotely.

Cons

I do not have any cons.

Pros

The biggest pro for me working at EDO was they were very flexible on my working hours. I never felt scared to ask for time off if I needed it, and they were always accommodating. I did not interact with many staff members, but everyone I did was nice and helpful. They genuinely seemed to want to ensure I was happy with my internship and getting out of it what I wanted.

Cons

There is limited structure to the actual internship, which means it is up to the individual to make the most of the opportunities in front of them. For me I felt I was able to do that, but I know for many people that is a much harder challenge and may leave them feeling dissatisfied. All of my work was almost entirely independent, especially because the position is hybrid, which meant work did get monotonous at times. You can get college credit for it, but the internship is unpaid, which is less than ideal, especially if your college makes getting credit for internships difficult. Lastly, this is probably not going to be an internship that changes your life. It's a great first internship for an undergraduate student, as EDO hires a lot of students each semester which makes it fairly easy to get accepted, so it can boost a student's resume to get even more prestigious internships. On the flip side, that also means staff cannot get to know you that well, you feel kind of replaceable, and the experience you gain during your internship may not be super unique.
