Pros

There are plenty of friendly coworkers. The working environment is a collaborative one. There are plenty of opportunities within the company due to the multiple product and business arcs.

Cons

The compensation and rating system at Eastman is not great. Employee compensation is not reflective of job responsibility increases and focuses mostly on "years of experience," with some differentiation based on performance. Therefore, there is high likelihood of being moved from one job to another within the company and being told that it is a lateral move, despite the fact that the amount of responsibility and effort required to meet performance goals greatly increase. Management has no answer to the question as to why there is no difference in compensation in this regard. This type of management would tend to make working hard for a company that doesn't appropriately reward it's employees exhausting and frustrating. Additionally, there has been a large focus on large cost decreases within the company. The CEO has acknowledged the squeeze coming from investors on the need to maintain large single-digit growth. Some departments are feeling the pressures of being asked to maintain or even increase throughput, while reducing budget available to make improvements or repairs. This ends up leaving gaps that could significantly impact the company from a financial standpoint in the longer-term.

Pros

Friendly, helpful colleagues. Vast variety of opportunities for engineers, especially younger ones. Actively supporting the communities where we live and work. Recent changes in management have restored positive outlook.

Cons

A lot of eggs are in the circular-economy basket rather than having the risk more evenly distributed among our product streams. We've lost a lot of talent recently to other businesses, partly because of unhappiness with former management but partly because of pay. Annual pay increases exist but have not even come close to keeping up with inflation.
