Pros

Job security Annual raises/bonuses There are some really great people to work with and build lasting relationships with Great managers Contribution to the company (United Way, etc)

Cons

1. Location: the company loses the potential for amazing talent because of its location. It's great for people who already have families but young, sharp professionals who come out here won't like it. If you're in sales, it might not be too bad because once you've completed your first year here you work from your home office. There's also a lack of diversity because of its location in a predominantly Caucasian area. 2. Pay an arm and a leg for insurance and still get a bill 3. If you come in as an non-exempt employee who plans on moving into an exempt role soon, you're on your own. It would be fine if this were the case for all employees but it isn't. Exempts are moved into positions regularly without having to look at the career site and their managers work together to make these transitions occur as quickly as possible. So if you're someone who has a lot of ambition and wants to keep growing in your career, do not come in as a non-exempt employee and think it will be easier. It won't. Two other things that demonstrates the divide between non-exempts and exempts are: You're told you will be able to apply for tuition reimbursement after working for the company a year but it doesn't end there. You MUST be an exempt employee to get it. If you're a non-exempt employee, you will pay that tuition out of pocket. There are also networking groups that meet frequently for luncheons and dinners where the eligibility depends on your exempt or non-exempt status.

Pros

Friendly, helpful colleagues. Vast variety of opportunities for engineers, especially younger ones. Actively supporting the communities where we live and work. Recent changes in management have restored positive outlook.

Cons

A lot of eggs are in the circular-economy basket rather than having the risk more evenly distributed among our product streams. We've lost a lot of talent recently to other businesses, partly because of unhappiness with former management but partly because of pay. Annual pay increases exist but have not even come close to keeping up with inflation.
