Cons

You me be very disappointed and underwhelmed by the people who have positions of responsibility in Supply Chain. It seems to me that most people in major positions have little background or qualifications to be in their positions. This is actually insulting to engineers, their training, their accomplishments, and makes the job much harder. It seemed to me that engineering accomplishments are greatly undervalued and engineers are routinely ignored. “Managers”, no matter how nontechnical and inexperienced their background, seemed to be greatly overvalued. This is the challenge you will face as an engineer. You also may be very disappointed in the Supply Chain’s culture and values. You may find that propaganda is the reality and that it is more important to signal that work is being done than to actually do the work and get it right. Getting it right and doing the right thing never seems to be important until after the fact. At that point it then becomes the most important at being the best at passing the blame. These seem to be the people who get promoted. Myself personally, I would never hire an engineer who’s first and only job was at Ecolab. I would be better off with a new grad. But don’t just take my word for it. Look at how often they have to advertise for engineer jobs. Look at the pay they are offering. If you do interview with Ecolab, make sure you go on a plant tour. Does the plant pass the eye test?

Pros

The pros are four day work week 10 hour days, with many Fridays volunteer overtime They try to make a friendly environment

Cons

The pay is not as good as the other places around the area – odd for a fortune 200 company Daily quotas on work – some of them are unrealistic Many department supervisors – a.k.a. “coaches “ are pretty good – one or two are not. Typically these are the ones that have been there for 25 years plus. 20 minute break in the morning, 20 minute break for lunch 10 minute break in the afternoon You are truly on your feet for majority of the 10 hour day The corporation tries to make a friendly environment, but very few employees involve themselves in it. Much backstabbing among line workforce, not a healthy environment. Line workforce runs to supervisors constantly about other people when they should be concerned about their own work. Management has their favorites and you could see that by who who they talk to, and who Brown noses them
