Working in higher education is personally rewarding. I found the university environment to be less stressful than most enterprise work environments. Opportunities for growth and development within the Ellucian contracts to potentially move up if you can relocate.

Cons

The network administrators are often contracted out in this setting so you are not actually working directly for the employer.

Flexibility of remote work Great peers that are helpful Decent benefits

Cons

Upper and Middle Management are awful More interested in vibe/buzz words rather than teaching you expectations the role Private Equity money is bringing in clowns from Boeing and Microsoft to manage implementations and shifts to the cloud. Lots of ego, no delivery to customers Embarassment working with clients when they see many architects, consultants, and PMs are incompetent (due to trickle down from upper mgmt) Lies about assigning you clients in your time zone. I had clients in 4 time zones with one being a 12 hour difference.
