Pros

Finely tuned corporate machine. Very stable, consistent work. Opportunities to move up within the company at a slow, but steady and reliable pace. If you do a good job and stick with Emerson you will eventually find yourself in an upper management role.

Cons

The typical problems when working for a large corporation. Very little creativity. Very slow moving. Annoying things withing the office that management has no interest in improving (no cell phone reception, entry points not in logical position to parking lots, building is always cold and dry. The culture was my least favorite part. People tend to want to go through the motions. Not a lot of ambition. Put in an honest 40hrs per week and then check out. Not a very fun work environment. Not a great place to be if you are young and full of energy.

Pros

Great immediate supervisor and their boss. Made top-down communications tolerable. Great co-workers and great collaboration that lifted the entire team.

Cons

(1) RIF based on tenure, not performance. HR is too powerful a department, and everyone fears it. (2) Tenure made you lazy, killed creativity, initiative, and promoted a "yes" culture. (3) During COVID layoffs, CEO pay went from $3.7 million to $15.x million, while employees endured 25% furloughs for 3 months, and management 10% reduction in pay for 6 months - explain how that is reasonable. (4) CEO declared DEI as the way forward for career mobility, and a lot of young, promising talent walked out the door, including DEI-qualified minorities. (5) I was one of those minorities.
