Pros
As a 100% commission employee the harder you work the more you are going to make. The job is somewhat flexible in that you create your schedule everyday, but if you aren’t out working your market you will not succeed. If you are a people person and do not enjoy sitting behind a desk it’s wonderful. You will have a set territory, so you aren’t cold calling, but the number of accounts ranges based on your territory(40-125).
Cons
People think we just sit around and consume product, but this job can be very stressful. It is high pressure with a lot of goals and quotas to hit. It is insanely competitive in the on premise side vying for spots on the cocktail and wine menu. Every distributor has a wine that makes sense so how are you going to be the one that wins the business. The book is huge so it can sometimes be hard to focus. One minute you can have the best selling product the next people have moved on. One day you may have a buyer that loves you the next day he has left and someone new comes in and you have to rebuild the relationship. It’s truly a great job but there are challenge like with everything else.
