Pros

Pay is comparable to other organizations

Cons

Empower has very uneven growth and experiences boom and bust cycles. When workload is high, metrics are more readily attainable but the pressure to perform leads to many errors. A emphasis on lean operation has caused teams get laid off, or reassigned to other positions — many teams are unprepared for the next increase in activity and experienced employees are less likely to stay as long term career advancement prospects are minimal. Management’s focus on metrics over safety and quality leads to excessive rework, but accuracy is overlooked. Many employees complain of being micromanaged.

Five years is a significant commitment, and we deeply respect the perspective you've gained during your time here. You’ve seen Empower through multiple phases of rapid growth, and we hear your point clearly: navigating shifts in volume requires better planning so our teams aren't left feeling overwhelmed or underprepared. We also want to directly address your note on safety and metrics. Quality and patient safety are the absolute foundation of what we do. If operational goals are ever translating into a feeling that accuracy is secondary, or resulting in micromanagement, that is a critical disconnect we take very seriously and must correct on the floor. Your advice to put people first and elevate employee recognition is heard. Thank you for your continued dedication to our patients and for challenging us to be better.

Pros

A few things I'd tell anyone considering Empower: We're AI- and innovation-forward, so things move quickly and actually get done. We're early enough that you get to design the foundation, not inherit someone else's. And the mission is real — everyone supports getting patients access to affordable medicine, and the care for that mission is evident in everything we do. Fast, foundational, mission-driven, and team forward.

Cons

Fast pace and a still-being-built foundation cut both ways: priorities shift quickly, some processes and tools are still maturing, and there's more ambiguity and manual work than at an established company. It's a strong fit if you're energized by building and comfortable with change — a harder one if you want everything structured and settled on day one.

This captures the Empower experience for builders with unusual clarity. The tension you name — between the opportunity to design from scratch and the ambiguity that comes with a still-maturing foundation — is exactly the trade-off we want people to understand before they join. Your advice to management is worth repeating: invest in people as fast as you are growing. That is the challenge and the commitment. The tools, support structures, and development paths have to keep pace with the speed of the business, or the speed breaks people instead of energising them. We hear that. Appreciate the candour — this is the kind of review that helps the right people find us. — Empower Pharmacy
