Consistent leadership turnover and continuous layoffs - Talent Acquisition Empower Pharmacy Employee Review

Pros

Normal 401k match in comparison to other companies and free compounded medications

Cons

Attitude reflects leadership. Certain executive leaders are demeaning to entire team in front of team members. Salary equity appears to be an issue within the company. Employees holding the same job title and performing similar work are compensated differently, and in some cases newer hires receive significantly higher salaries than longer tenured employees, creating a major concern around fairness and retention. Raises appear to be inconsistent across employees and are often delayed beyond the timeframes originally communicated. Frequent layoffs have created an unstable work environment and ongoing concerns about job security. Additionally, layoffs were handled in group settings rather than on an individual basis, which felt impersonal and lacking in compassion for affected employees. Combined with inconsistent compensation practices and delayed raises, these issues negatively impacted employee morale and trust in leadership.

Thank you for sharing this. As someone in Talent Acquisition, you understand better than most how deeply these experiences affect people's trust in a company — and we hear that. Compensation equity, timely raises, and the way we handle workforce changes are areas where we know we must do better. Every employee deserves to feel valued fairly and treated with dignity, especially during difficult moments. We appreciate your honesty and your advice to stay focused on the people who show up every day giving their best. That is something we genuinely take to heart.

Pros

A few things I'd tell anyone considering Empower: We're AI- and innovation-forward, so things move quickly and actually get done. We're early enough that you get to design the foundation, not inherit someone else's. And the mission is real — everyone supports getting patients access to affordable medicine, and the care for that mission is evident in everything we do. Fast, foundational, mission-driven, and team forward.

Cons

Fast pace and a still-being-built foundation cut both ways: priorities shift quickly, some processes and tools are still maturing, and there's more ambiguity and manual work than at an established company. It's a strong fit if you're energized by building and comfortable with change — a harder one if you want everything structured and settled on day one.

This captures the Empower experience for builders with unusual clarity. The tension you name — between the opportunity to design from scratch and the ambiguity that comes with a still-maturing foundation — is exactly the trade-off we want people to understand before they join. Your advice to management is worth repeating: invest in people as fast as you are growing. That is the challenge and the commitment. The tools, support structures, and development paths have to keep pace with the speed of the business, or the speed breaks people instead of energising them. We hear that. Appreciate the candour — this is the kind of review that helps the right people find us. — Empower Pharmacy
