Pros

Pros of Working in the Transport Department: * Flexible Scheduling: The department is very lenient with schedules and accommodating personal emergencies. * Supportive Environment: Enjoy a non-dramatic, feel-good work atmosphere where the manager, Jack Lagrasta, is compassionate and understanding, ensuring the team’s voices are heard in meetings with higher-ups. * Generous Break Policy: Benefit from a one-hour paid lunch break, with the flexibility to choose the most convenient time, except during rush hour. * Educational Opportunities: Gain valuable experience by learning medical terminology from nurses and doctors, as well as discovering potential career paths beyond transport. * Growth Potential: There is ample room for growth within the transport department, providing opportunities for those eager to advance their careers.

Cons

Cons of Working in the Transport Department: * Patient Safety Concerns: There is a shortage of IV pumps, PCA pumps, and Ivy pole forcing nurses to compete for or hide pumps for patients in need. Lack of disinfecting wipes for proper equipment cleaning for use of next patient. * Outdated Equipment: Patients have to use low-quality stretchers, such as Hill-Rom stretchers from the 1990s, which are rusted, rotten, peeled, and damaged. * Lack of Recognition: Transporters are often overlooked and only seen as responsible for dropping off and picking up patients, despite us having to administrate oxygen, handling patients with care to avoid causing pain post-surgery. Ensuring safe passage for patients into their rooms is difficult due to limited space and clutter from chairs. Transporters often have to move and rearrange furniture, making it feel like playing Tetris. This task is often exacerbated by the lack of assistance from PCAs, who are frequently on their phones, or from generally lazy nurses on certain floors, particularly floors 6, 7, and 8, as commonly acknowledged by staff. * Limited Communication Rights: Transporters are not permitted to send emails to important hospital staff members, such as HR, to ask about general concerns or inquiries, even though they have been given email accounts. * Low Pay and Limited Overtime: The pay for transporters is low, and there is a noticeable stinginess regarding the allocation of overtime, affecting transporters and other employees in general.

Pros

The pay is alright and having weekends off is nice.

Cons

The communication is awful and not consistent through different levels of management. They refuse to give you more hours, but then will last minute ask you to stay later. But then you get talked to for working more hours than you’re scheduled. The training is nonexistent and you be told to just figure it out and google it.
