Pros

My team was fantastic. They were super respectful and great at what they did. The remote work environment was very friendly and we maintained a high level of team cohesion while only meeting in person a few times per year. The projects were very interesting and I was always learning new topics and skills. As a scientist, there were ample opportunities for international travel for conferences and field work. They seem to take staff well-being seriously. Staff were given a lot of independence and trust in setting their own schedules. They make an effort with DEI, and while nobody's perfect, they took it more seriously than a lot of places.

Cons

They will continue to add projects until you say stop, so be aware of your time allocations. Speak up when you hit your max hours, otherwise management will not pay attention to how much work they give you. People are very enthusiastic about what they do here, so it can be hard to say no to new opportunities, even when plates are full. It results in people getting overburdened sometimes. Upper management can be opaque about future directions and strategy, which makes it hard to know if they plan to keep your role when funding becomes tight.

Pros

A community of mission-driven staff who truly care about the planet and the causes that EDF advances. Extremely smart and kind staff. Incredible benefits, including a significant amount of company days off (summer Fridays, org shut-down for one week at the end of August, days off include Veteran's Day and Juneteenth); very generous benefits.

Cons

Out-of-touch top leadership, especially Executive Director, who pretends to be authentic and caring but isn't at all.
