Not a good place for early career professionals - Development Coordinator Environmental Defense Fund Employee Review

Pros

There are so many smart and talented mid level to senior employees that work here. It can be a good place to meet future mentors. Unlimited time off and remote options are really nice.

Cons

Upper management is completely disconnected from day to day operations and seems to have no clue how to run a company. They don't value input from staff and don't want to improve despite getting abysmal scores on the most recent staff survey. Pay is really bad for junior employees who tend to do most of the work. HR creates obstacles to professional growth and internal candidates are not always prioritized. This is not a good place to grow your career, rather it is a place where you come back to get a cushy salary once you have experience elsewhere. Maybe one day we can all take home a $890k+ salary like Fred Krupp.

Pros

A community of mission-driven staff who truly care about the planet and the causes that EDF advances. Extremely smart and kind staff. Incredible benefits, including a significant amount of company days off (summer Fridays, org shut-down for one week at the end of August, days off include Veteran's Day and Juneteenth); very generous benefits.

Cons

Out-of-touch top leadership, especially Executive Director, who pretends to be authentic and caring but isn't at all.
