Pros

Equity Methods is a place where you can truly build a career rather than just work at a job. When you first start out, there is a big learning curve and some people will say you are working a lot of hours for the pay. However, Equity Methods really is investing a ton in teaching you skills in SAS Coding, Equity Compensation Accounting, and innumerable skills in communication (internal and external), client service, working on a team, presentation skills, and how to eventually become a leader. If you embrace the culture and focus on learning new skills and doing good work, a career at Equity Methods doesn't plateau. Rather than a traditional job where you may start out at a higher starting salary, but then often see pay raises based solely based on inflation adjustments, the potential for growth at Equity Methods is amazing. One of the best things about Equity Methods is that you are in control of your career path. If you want to grow and find ways to increase your impact, then you can make that happen and will see your career grow. It truly is a pay for performance environment. If you communicate with your manager and tell them what's on your mind, they truly care and will bend over backwards for you. You're not just a number. Equity Methods cares a ton about investing in people. They do this through tons of training, cultural and team building events at least monthly (we've done bowling, TopGolf, chair massages, yoga, movies, trips to Flagstaff, go-kart racing, kickball/volleyball at the park, escape rooms, pumpkin carving, community volunteer events, the list goes on), managers investing countless hours thinking about how to help people, a constant focus on exposing juniors to skills to help them in future roles, food and treats brought in frequently, and more. It really is unlike any other job I've ever heard of, and I frequently can't believe how lucky I am to have found this place. Some may consider this a con, but the work is challenging which is part of the reason why I love it. I have worked roles where I was put into a box with a very defined set of responsibilities and it wasn’t long before I felt bored and was searching for ways to continue to grow. I don’t want a career where I’m not being challenged, as David Bowie has said: “If you feel safe in the area that you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth, and when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting." Equity Methods is a place that allows me to constantly go just a little bit out of my depth, and once I feel like my feet are touching the bottom again, I’m nudged to go a little deeper. Equity Methods is not the place for everyone, if you don’t like ambiguity, solving problems, working in a customer service environment, or needing a lot of logical/analytical skills, then this is not the place for you. But if you are person who likes to be challenged, enjoys solving logical problems, is okay with ambiguity, and wants to build a career, you can’t find any place better.

Cons

This place isn't for everyone. The pros for some people are cons to others.

Pros

- In a rapidly growing and expanding industry (intersection of finance/acct, technology, consulting, and human capital) - Best in its markets - top brand - Work w some of the smartest and nicest people will ever meet - Can gain technical proficiency and broader business skills - Embracing leading technologies / trying to be a disruptor

Cons

- Not everyone signs up for the firm's values like client delight and excellence - Will work with many different managers (pro if you are open to being adaptable) - Long hours to master current job and work toward your next promo - Not every hire is a high performer / driven, which can be tough until that person is coached into performance or leaves. But they do work hard to hire very good people

Pros

- You’ll learn a ton - mostly because you’re doing the work of three people. Who needs boundaries when you can have “growth,” right? - Super diverse environment, thanks to the endless cycle of international hires who need sponsorship. Turns out survival trauma really brings people together. - You get very close to your peers because you’re all experiencing the same delightful cocktail of stress, burnout, and “figure it out yourself.” Trauma bonding at its finest. - Snacks in the office - because when you’re required to be onsite five days a week, you might as well have something to crunch on while drowning in work. - Free food during quarter-end, but only because there’s absolutely no time to get your own. Nothing says “we value you” like dinner at 10 p.m. while you’re still working.

Cons

- The workload is flat-out ridiculous. People aren’t treated like humans - they’re more like hardware that leadership expects to run 24/7 without updates or maintenance. - Senior employees have mostly been here since they graduated college, so they genuinely think this toxic environment is normal. And of course, they enforce it like it’s a sacred tradition. - Compensation is laughable compared to the workload. During raise discussions, they somehow always conclude that you just aren’t good enough yet. Gaslighting is practically part of the performance review process. - The industry niche is so narrow that looking at the EM directors is basically looking into your future: 0% life, 100% work. Inspiring, if you’ve always dreamed of becoming a cautionary tale. - Toxicity is fully normalized. They constantly hire fresh grads because it takes a while for people to realize they’re on a slowly sinking ship. And by the time they do, they’re usually already updating their resume.
