Pros

Stable & growing company, with great employee benefits and well thought-out training programs. Sales roles received satisfactory recognition at quarterly meetings. Diverse and friendly culture

Cons

Understaffed and overworked and minimally compensated. I had no supportive leasing staff during a very busy summer season with a 300+ sized community. Processes for upper management approval are extensive therefore customer service suffers.

Over the past couple of years, we have used many resources to try and find a good balance at the properties between the workload and the staff - if you feel like your property has nuances that may require additional people, we encourage you to speak with your regional leadership. We do participate in industry compensation reviews every year to ensure that we remain competitive in our compensation package - be on the lookout for a new commission structure coming in 2017. Pros

Housing discount, strong portfolio exposure, opportunity to work across multiple communities, and valuable experience in a fast-paced leasing environment.

Cons

Management loves to preach “teamwork” until something goes wrong, then suddenly it’s every employee for themselves. Very documentation-heavy culture where certain managers seem to enjoy writing people up more than actually developing talent. Communication is inconsistent, accountability is selective, and favoritism is hard to ignore. Commission structure is shockingly low for the workload and expectations. Leadership often presents itself as organized and supportive, but behind the scenes there’s a lot of blame-shifting, targeting of employees, and policy confusion — especially regarding employee housing and lease transitions. My own experience at the end of my employee lease felt retaliatory and left a very negative impression.
