Pros

• I met some great people. • I learned a lot about property management.

Cons

• No work life balance - always working full weekends. • Benefits, specifically the health insurance is terrible and very expensive. • Commission structure doesn’t make sense and is too low. When I asked for clarification about the commission structure, both of my managers were unable to answer my questions. • The training process is absolutely terrible and even when that is shared with the VP and other management, it is ignored and unchanged. • Turn over is insane - great employees are not valued or appreciated until they give their 2 weeks notice. • Although Equity Residential promotes career growth, there is no clear career path for Leasing Consultants and there is no focus on your development. False promises. • Inappropriate and unprofessional management. • Equity Residential claims that they want their employees to speak up and question authority but when employees do, their thoughts and opinions are ignored and employees end up regretting saying anything in the first place.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that your experience with us has not been positive, as the environment and leadership you have described is not in line with our expectations and vision for our culture. While we may not always be able to deliver the answers or solutions our employees are hoping for when they make suggestions or challenge decisions, our senior leaders truly value the feedback and always encourage employees to be heard and to question authority -- and we expect our leaders to always communicate the "why" behind the answer. We are very sorry to hear that this has not been your experience, and we would welcome the chance to speak with you about your concerns in an attempt to provide clarity and resolution. Please know that the members of your local HR and OTD teams are here to address the very concerns you mentioned, and we encourage you to reach out so that we can learn more. Thank you.

Pros

Housing discount, strong portfolio exposure, opportunity to work across multiple communities, and valuable experience in a fast-paced leasing environment.

Cons

Management loves to preach “teamwork” until something goes wrong, then suddenly it’s every employee for themselves. Very documentation-heavy culture where certain managers seem to enjoy writing people up more than actually developing talent. Communication is inconsistent, accountability is selective, and favoritism is hard to ignore. Commission structure is shockingly low for the workload and expectations. Leadership often presents itself as organized and supportive, but behind the scenes there’s a lot of blame-shifting, targeting of employees, and policy confusion — especially regarding employee housing and lease transitions. My own experience at the end of my employee lease felt retaliatory and left a very negative impression.
