Pros

From the very top senior leadership, to the regional team, they are constantly delivering updates on how to navigate this moment, from new policies and procedures to new options for time off, free virtual Dr visits, working shorter hours with full pay, flexible options for working from home and a totally open door to question leadership and make suggestions. They’ve made it clear to EVERYONE, if you don’t feel comfortable doing it during this pandemic moment, then don’t. Just reach out to leadership and they’ll step in and help. Even our rehab team is jumping in to the on-site process and helping paint apartments. Our Asst. VP of Facilities this week, jumped on his motorcycle and brought face coverings to hundreds of employees. Our Regional Managers are having multiple virtual check ins, every week, with onsite teams to make sure we’re ok and offering support. Is Equity making an effort to still get new leases, collect rent from those who aren’t financially impacted and maintain our physical properties? Yes! And thank goodness. This is what is going to ensure our thousands of employees still have a job at the end of this pandemic and ensure that our residents have a safe and beautiful place to call home. Is this a tough moment with lots of work? Yes. Are we doing the right thing in this moment? 100%

Cons

This is a tough moment. Most of what we do on-site has a new twist during this pandemic. So, the stress is kind of high during this moment. Is that expected during a time of crisis? Yeah. Currently, with some taking time off and shortened work hours, the workload and pressure on the property manager is significant. But, the support from Equity is seen, heard and felt.

Pros

Housing discount, strong portfolio exposure, opportunity to work across multiple communities, and valuable experience in a fast-paced leasing environment.

Cons

Management loves to preach “teamwork” until something goes wrong, then suddenly it’s every employee for themselves. Very documentation-heavy culture where certain managers seem to enjoy writing people up more than actually developing talent. Communication is inconsistent, accountability is selective, and favoritism is hard to ignore. Commission structure is shockingly low for the workload and expectations. Leadership often presents itself as organized and supportive, but behind the scenes there’s a lot of blame-shifting, targeting of employees, and policy confusion — especially regarding employee housing and lease transitions. My own experience at the end of my employee lease felt retaliatory and left a very negative impression.
