Pros

Great standard benefits package for a corporate job and senior leadership that seems to care about employees.

Cons

Few opportunities for mobility unless you are comfortable moving to other regions. Inconsistent expectations from property managers with heavily blurred and moving lines between job roles of both sales and maintenance.

Thank you for your feedback. Equity’s senior leadership absolutely cares about our employees, celebrating them as often as possible through our many recognition platforms. We certainly appreciate you highlighting our benefits, which are offered to all employees, with the option to individualize which benefits are selected during our open enrollment period. We also wanted to take a moment to respond to your noted cons, as “mobility” is defined in many ways. For some, mobility may be a lateral transition to a larger/smaller community, a new market or newly acquired community - just for the opportunity to gain exposure to a different asset; for others, mobility may be solely viewed as a promotion into a certain title or role. Regarding the latter, Equity loves to promote from within - and in 2020, we had almost 300 internal promotions! We encourage you to speak with either your Community or Regional Manager regarding any questions you may have about your current role/expectations of the position. Additionally, we are always looking at ways to streamline and improve processes, and will be sure to share your suggestion to automate property audits with the appropriate business partners. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Pros

Housing discount, strong portfolio exposure, opportunity to work across multiple communities, and valuable experience in a fast-paced leasing environment.

Cons

Management loves to preach “teamwork” until something goes wrong, then suddenly it’s every employee for themselves. Very documentation-heavy culture where certain managers seem to enjoy writing people up more than actually developing talent. Communication is inconsistent, accountability is selective, and favoritism is hard to ignore. Commission structure is shockingly low for the workload and expectations. Leadership often presents itself as organized and supportive, but behind the scenes there’s a lot of blame-shifting, targeting of employees, and policy confusion — especially regarding employee housing and lease transitions. My own experience at the end of my employee lease felt retaliatory and left a very negative impression.
