Pros

The people and culture are motivating. Culture includes catered lunches promoting camaraderie, regular walks to the surrounding good coffee shops, and exciting ping pong breaks. The frequency in happy hours and health benefits are also a big bonus. Internal promotions are generally preferred, so there is the potential to grow a management career at Euclid.

Cons

Work/life balance is questionable; leadership subtly frowns upon working remotely and the expectations are being in the office 9+ hours a day. Top-down priorities change often, making it hard to assess whether current work will still be valuable in 2-3 months. It is obvious that management cares more about the general output than employee satisfaction, leading to high turnover (both voluntary and involuntary). Due to high employee turnover, tech/product is unstable, and knowledge is fragmented and typically undocumented. Lots of office politics.

Thank you for the feedback. I agree that we have awesome people and I’m glad you’ve noticed we work to promote from within. I think you've shared some useful observations here. We do, however, try very hard to create a transparent culture that encourages open and direct feedback - including sharing the board decks at our twice-monthly company meetings, sending notes from the weekly management meetings to an all-company alias, and incorporating an anonymous questions section into the all-hands. With the exception of sensitive HR topics, we don't filter information from these. We're also starting twice-yearly 360 performance reviews in May and will solicit employee feedback through a new quarterly company survey. More importantly to me, it seems we have not met your needs. My biggest concern here is that you didn’t feel comfortable sharing this feedback directly with me or your manager. And for that, I apologize. I hope you’ll swing by my desk, put some time on my calendar to meet and discuss ways to make this better, talk to your manager, or even share a comment or question in that anonymous section of the all hands. Thank you! Best, Brent (CEO)

Pros

Your coworkers are smart, talented, and engaged. The company is small; culture is actively managed. Benefits are many and well thought out - great health coverage, commuter benefits, stock options, free lunch 4x week, regular events and outings. Location is great - lots to do in the neighborhood. The problems you're solving for are new and challenging. There's a lot of freedom for experimentation and plenty of room to grow. The young market is growing.

Cons

The company skews young and it shows. Euclid is many people's first or second startup, or job. Young management makes some rookie moves. The big personalities (decision makers) listen best to other big personalities. There is a cultural schism - one side comes from finance and works like it, the other side comes from tech and works like it. The difference leads to trust issues, communication breakdowns across teams, and turnover in some (many) cases. Clear strategy and appropriate goaling would make a huge difference. Not really a con, but the market for the space is changing rapidly. Euclid changes to adapt, but not everyone is on board or even sees why. The real downside is the company suffers from a lack of a clear vision; no one is moving in the same direction in the first place, and when the company needs to change direction, it's harder than it needs to be.
