AVOID AT ALL COSTS: Toxic work culture and middle management - Executive Everest Re Group Employee Review

Pros

+ Good pay and benefits. + Excellent travel opportunities. + Plenty of runway for growth.

Cons

- Extremely toxic work culture and office politics. - Middle management thrives on gossip and colourful language in the office. - Micromanagement is freely practised across all levels. - Very high turnover (don't take my word for it, just do your homework on this) for company of this size. - Upper management openly lie to cover up high turnover (medical reasons, family consequences etc.) when employees are clearly unhappy and have left for greener pastures. - Non-existent work/life balance.

Pros

Genuinely cannot think of a compelling pro to list here at this point.

Cons

The IT Infrastructure teams were already rife with terrible QA, critically bad habits and overall defensive and unproductive demeanors. But Everest outdid itself by signing a contract with a service provider to provide staffing moving forward. This was a widely opposed decision that was made so a certain someone in the dept with high power can point to a page and say "see I made the expense number go down. Can I please have another bonus?" The IT infrastructure Deptartment is now flooded with HB1 workers who are blatantly lying on their resumes and get shipped over here in droves in order to perform cheap and mediocre work. If you are not one of them, you will spend and waste a great amount of time training them or making sense of their workflows. All in all, if there's one thing you can expect from the Everest IT Infrastructure dept. is finding a way to perform even worse than it did before. Avoid it like the plague.
