Pros

Salaries and benefits can be considered competitive with the market, especially when you consider the narrow scope of the job and the low expectations and standards of what you will be required to do.

Cons

Top down, command and control management. Functional silos, with no cross functional team work going on at all. Different areas of the company are working toward different goals, sometimes at cross purposes. No consistency of accountability across departments; in any case, accountability is low even in departments that attempt to implement it. Very little transparency in policies. Senior management has no credibility. Storm duty with no pay is supposed to be a condition of employment for all non-represented employees. In practice, a relatively small group is activated for each storm, while many non-represented employees never serve storm duty. And for those who do report for storm duty, some get paid, some do not. This is a known fact among employees, but management has refused to divulge the policy on who gets paid and when.

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Normal vacation. Interesting job, meaning it’ll keep you mind sharp.

Cons

There are no goals or expectations set that allows you to prove you’re ready for growth. The only way to advance your career is to be one of the cool guys OR work 16 hours a day and weekends. Bonuses and merit increase is the same across the board no matter how much extra you do. The work force is too small for customer/management and the expectations are set too high. There are not enough vehicles for the work force and often times trainees have no way of getting to the job site. We would run out of stock items (cable, wire, connections, transformer, safety gear) that are necessary to keep the power on. Our best coworkers have left for biggest competitor…me too.
