Pros

As other reviewers have mentioned, most of the people at ES are incredibly bright, dedicated, and hardworking. Everspring would not be anywhere near as successful without their IT, LD/ID, admissions and marketing teams. I joined this company because I believed in the mission and I drank the Kool-Aid and didn't believe the negative reviews on Glassdoor. It took me a little longer than most to come to this point, but I did believe that the President and CLO wanted to improve the company's highly toxic culture. Pay is above industry standard since they are desperate to retain their talent.

Cons

Oh, where to start? I will echo other reviews in that middle management (across several departments) do their best to make their direct reports miserable. With the exception of one person, I don't think these are awful people. They just don't understand how to manage. Managing isn't about "do what I tell you to do. Did you do it yet? Why didn't you do it yet? Why aren't you doing it the way I told you to do it yet? Oh wait, I didn't have all the information so start over." Emails get sent with changing priorities all the time. Good luck asking your manager for clarification because they clearly won't know. If you ask why the policy changed to something more onerous, they won't be able to tell you. I don't understand how a company that has implemented the same process for several programs and universities still acts like they're reinventing the wheel.Every.Single.Time. Departments that need to functionally coordinate don't communicate. Meetings get scheduled where the key stakeholders aren't invited or don't bother to attend. There are so many layers to management that it's become bloated and redundant. I can honestly say there are a few VPs and directors/executive directors who serve no real purpose, but they have longevity with the company. Managers will be on the floor actively discussing the recent exit of an employee in front of everyone else. If you expect any level of privacy or confidentiality, good luck. There are no secrets here. Everyone gossips, from VPs on down to managers, who then turn around and share that highly inappropriate news with their reports. Managers are so defensive and insecure about their ability to manage that they cannot hear constructive criticism. There is a revolving HR door, so you can't really take your concerns to a neutral third-party. You'll be asked to bring your bright ideas to the table, and then see other departments take credit for your ingenuity. Things will be promised to you as an employee with no follow through. There is no career progression. You won't have clearly defined job responsiblities or a way to accurately measure your performance. If you are ambitious and want to grow, develop, and continually learn, this is not the place for you.

Pros

The best boss I’ve ever had was at this job. I love that the job is mostly remote, but there are some in person opportunities. I always felt supported and fairly compensated.

Cons

We’re required to come in twice a month. I wish it wasn’t a requirement, just strongly encouraged.

Pros

Nice office, free coffee and snacks Work From Home Stepping Stone Some nice coworkers

Cons

Terrible work-life balance Will have you managing a huge account, almost basically on your own, and your managers (plural) will either be so burnt out that they cannot help you or so obsessed with looking good for the CEO that they disregard you and pile on more work Layoffs (twice in a calendar year now), where they’ll move the extra work to an already burnt out team Low Pay, Laughable Raises No place for growth Pushes to complete the “Chicago Great Places to Work” survey with positive remarks because that’s one of the only things making them look good to new hires
