Pros
The people doing the actual work (not senior leadership) are exceptional. Always putting the student first and finding ways to support their success.
Cons
Where to start? What used to be a “best place to work” is a shell of its former staff. The president brought in an “interim” provost and vice provost, and to nobody’s surprise - the interim titles fell off a few months later. They continue to fill the senior leadership positions with people in their network without going through interviews. And all the people they’re hiring for these positions live too far away from Albany to follow the hybrid schedule of 2x a week in the office so they are all happily working from home full time and they are never seen on campus. They announced an academic reorganization almost 6 months ago and asked people to maintain “business as usual” but couldn’t answer whether or not those people would have jobs when they were done. People were forced to reapply for jobs that they were already doing. The culture is terrible. People are not are not happy and many of them are searching for a new position. The people who are happy about these changes in reviews are likely very new to Excelsior or have decided to drink the “this is great” kool-aid because if you talk about concerns you have, you are retaliated against.
