Pros

CHQ: Job security and great coworkers. If you want to keep your head down, and wait for retirement, this is a good spot. Otherwise I recommend you choose another place.

Cons

CHQ: FYI - no work from home, or flexibility even they they will claim there is flexibility Old boys club. The company does not want to hear anything negative. If you say something other than what they want to hear, they will tell you there is something wrong with you for not participating. They have an anti retaliation policy. That works if you're not the one being retaliated against but if you are - it isn't true, and you will absolutely be retaliated against. There is nowhere to turn since there is no HR. You have no safety net to protect you, and it will be your word against the Sr Manager, because they are tasked to interpret and enforce state and federal HR laws. Managers do what they want and since they are all friends, they won't do anything against their friends. People will yell at you, and call you names, and harrass you. Nothing will be done. If you want to keep your head down, and just do what you are told then you will probably do fine here. If you want to have a healthy workplace, go somewhere else. Do not stand up for your rights, or go against management unless you want to hire a lawyer. No one else will help you. and they won't make any changes unless they are legally required. They count on people not knowing their rights, and also on the fact that the pay is so low that people can't afford lawyers. Also: STAY AWAY FROM SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION AT ALL COSTS

Pros

Stability and job security, formerly. Compressed work weeks and work-life balance, formerly. A 47-year no-layoff policy tested in two recessions and a pandemic. Formerly. Now? Well, all of those are gone, so it's hard to really cite anything other than that there's health care and the paychecks don't bounce.

Cons

The same stuff that's always been there, for one. Strict dress code. Dated systems they're trying to run away from as fast as humanly possible. Strict in-office culture with limited WFH. Little to no upward mobility; most senior management has been there for 20+ years and when someone does get promoted, the remaining jobs often seem to magically go to their buddies without getting bid. A complete inability to manage and coordinate anything effectively amongst multiple teams, which apparently is going to be somehow solved by laying off almost all the project/program managers. Oh, and on top of all that? Now, the new regime will lay you off, but first they'll gaslight you and claim the no-layoff policy never existed. Then they'll claim the team managers (who they conveniently also laid off) did the rankings that determined who got cut. Then they'll put a bunch of the survivors into a "bootcamp" and then make them interview to keep their jobs.
