Pros

Express has a very high standard for customer service so for the most part people really enjoy shopping there. The best part about working there was the discount...30% off every day and 45% of special weekends.

Cons

Many downsides. The pay is incredibly low for what employees are expected to do. I worked there for over 5 years and was only making $8.00 when I left. Employees are expected to be knowledgeable about the product, provide exceptional customer service and always act with a sense of urgency when on the sales floor. These are normal expectations for any retail business, but the way store management coaches the employees is terrible and should be monitored more closely by higher level management. The managers were rude, lacked compassion and gossiped about associates, yet they wondered why the associate turn over rate was so high.

Pros

Could manage the business as I saw fit as through the lens of a business owner

Cons

Training was minimal and in a location very different than my future store. Staff I inherited was horrible and leadership was not transparent about the status of the store in regards to profitability and issues within the store or company for that matter. Company declared bankruptcy about 5 months after I started and closed my location. Not a great experience.
