Pros
good employee discount, good music
Cons
Everything! My manager was extremely gossipy, even though he was almost 40 years old! Favoritism was definitely a big issue; if you didn't "suck up," then you could expect to receive maybe 5, sometimes even 0 hours per week. Also, management gets upset when you aren't at their beck and call 24/7. I would sometimes get texts (don't even get me started on how unprofessional texting is) at 11PM asking me to come in at 9AM the next morning, However, when I was legitimately sick, no one was willing to work with me. I had to find my own cover, yet my manager wouldn't give me any other employees phone numbers. Pay is terrible. You are "reviewed" occasionally, and if you are up to par, you can receive a 25 cent per hour raise. I did like the employee discount, however, I was promised that when I finished training I would receive a one-time, 50% off discount. This never happened! How sad that you have to lie to your employees to get them to stay past the first week. Expect to hound customers. Managers bark at you to check on the same customer every five minutes, and it's frustrating to see that they find you annoying. I feel terrible bothering customers like Express asks you to do. How can you have a pleasant shopping experience when you being followed around the store the entire time? Overall, I really disliked my experience at Express. I stayed for a year purely for the employee discount because I loved their clothes. I would not recommend this job to anyone.
