Run, don’t walk, away - Brand Co-Manager Express Employee Review

Pros

Excluding the last year, the clothing is cute and easy to recommend to customers. The design team is doing much better now. The benefits are nice, mainly the PTO. Discount is straight 50% off but it’s not combinable with any other discounts or offers so the customer offer is usually cheaper.

Cons

Salaried managers are abused by higher ups. There is no work/life balance and Express is expected to be your entire life. District managers are openly hostile towards you if you prioritize your family, significant other or health over your job. I was forced to work a mandatory 18 hour shift to prepare for a corporate visit the day after I was hospitalized. I was nearly in tears and strongly considering just walking out without having any other kind of job lined up. A job should never make you feel that way, especially one that pays pennies in comparison to other well known brands. Not that bad for a part-time job but do NOT choose this company for a career.

Pros

Could manage the business as I saw fit as through the lens of a business owner

Cons

Training was minimal and in a location very different than my future store. Staff I inherited was horrible and leadership was not transparent about the status of the store in regards to profitability and issues within the store or company for that matter. Company declared bankruptcy about 5 months after I started and closed my location. Not a great experience.
