A great way to get your foot in the door, and taught me to appreciate some of the other jobs I've worked in. - Sales Associate/Keyed Cashier Express Employee Review

Pros

All around training. At Express they will teach you the basic building blocks of working in retail. *Cash Register and Return/Exchanges (once you go through Cashier training) *Selling and basic loss prevention techniques *Customer satisfaction *Working relationships with other like-minded young fashion conscious individuals. =) I still have friends from when I worked there three years ago.

Cons

There is not a lot of room for growth if you don't have the time to back it up. *if you're a full-time student (like I was) a high paced selling environment in the long run will be emotionally and physically exhausting. *I knew many people who had worked there for multiple years without moving up in ranks. A lot of employees were dissatisfied. *Favoritism amongst upper management *don't get into retail if you can't handle stress. *the clean up at night. Big store=big mess!

Pros

Could manage the business as I saw fit as through the lens of a business owner

Cons

Training was minimal and in a location very different than my future store. Staff I inherited was horrible and leadership was not transparent about the status of the store in regards to profitability and issues within the store or company for that matter. Company declared bankruptcy about 5 months after I started and closed my location. Not a great experience.
