Cons
Senior management cares about nothing but the bottom line. They like to tell you what you want to hear and how valued you are. But truly you’re just a number that means nothing. Way too many years of seeing this over and over with a magnitude of senior management turnover. With the skeleton staff you will have next to nothing for work life balance. No overtime allowed so the GM typically has to cover 98% of call in shifts if not all. And you better get all your weekly tasks in regardless if you’re running yourself ragged trying to keep your hotel in order. Senior management proclaims to be there if you need anything and will say it over and over. But they can’t even be bothered to respond to emails. So good luck! Legal takes weeks to get back to you, if they ever do! Extended stay caters to some of the worst clientele you could ever imagine, but they will do nothing to stop it because they want those heads in beds. Money? Oh just forget it! Plan on shining crap and scraping by with minimal supplies. You have to beg and plead for basics such as bedspreads and blankets. Don’t ever plan on staying within budget (if they even allow to go over) because the spending budgets they give you are the most asinine allotments ever. The only way you will ever succeed with if this company is if you’re in the “popular” crowd. They will certainly make you feel like an outcast if you don’t fit in. General managers are to blame for literally EVERYTHING! Not enough occupancy? It’s the GM’s fault, not sales who NEVER comes around. Let alone make phone calls. Associate turnover? In their eyes it’s the GM’s fault, not that fact that unemployment is so easily obtained. Or the fact that associates are so quick to jump ship because they were disciplined for doing something wrong. Simply because the company doesn’t care about them either and treats them like crap. ESA would rather keep unqualified GM’s than let them go just for the sake of their turnover rate. The hotels haven’t had a full renovation in 20 years! When they do “renovations” it’s very half a** and only bits and pieces. But you better shine that crap and keep your scores up, or there’s hell to pay!
