Pros

The physicians and clinic staff at all Eyecare Partners practices are amazing, dedicated people who do great work every day. If you're interested in working in a clinic, these are great people to work beside.

Cons

25% of Eyecare Partners staff were just laid off! Corporate leadership has been absolutely dismal for the last few years, overlooking the basics while chasing the next business buzzword or fad. Knowledge workers prove more resilient and productive in a remote configuration? ECP buys a large new office and tries to mandate RTO. Outstanding market solutions exist for EHR? ECP wastes 5 years and millions of dollars building their own. Gain knowledgeable support staff with acquired practices? ECP outsources to weak 3rd parties and loses all institutional knowledge. There are many ways to build a successful enterprise through acquisition, leveraging onboarded expertise, sharing best practices, managing for efficiency. Eyecare Partners has spent the last 5 years doing none of this.

Pros

Interesting projects, opportunity to support a business that services patients. Shared services is mostly remote.

Cons

Working for PE-backed firm stinks. Strategy fluctuates and changes with each Executive leadership turnover. Most of the senior leadership is filled with mercenaries who are here only for the next turn (sale) of the company, to cash in their equity options. Several were hired from RCA (a competitor) post RCA's sale. At the corporate level few/none are interested in building a good business, only in extracting what value they can to cash in and move to the next PE firm and repeat. In 3 years: - 3 CEOs - 3 CIOs - CHRO let go and not backfilled - CMO let go and not backfilled - 3 rounds of layoffs that I know of. Often people who were hired within 12 months. Saves money? Maybe except often they have to pay 3x for contractors to do the same work - but on the balance sheet it looks better to pay more for contractors due to EBITDA games.
