Pros

I'm a bit fascinated by some of the reviews I see here. I can understand where people are coming from, but I think there's a lot of context missing. I just finished up my 2 years with FDM recently and feel I have some insight into the program. While FDM doesn't do everything perfectly, they're definitely not a "scam" or out to get you. They provide a service, you're told up front what the terms are and you agree to them or you don't. For context, I graduated with virtually no experience or internships and had very little job prospects. I joined FDM, went through the program and was placed with an okay client. I can't say it was anything overly special, but it was a lot better than having no job. I have since moved on and gotten another job I doubt I could have gotten without the resume I was able to assemble over the last 2 years. I'd probably do it again if I were in the same position, but I dunno. At the very least look into the program and make your own conclusions. The reviews on here seem wacky and ultimately having an interview with them doesn't hurt you. Pros: It's a job connections to good companies you could work for long term the people are nice the training does provide good skills especially if you come in with a dry resume like I did. It's also fully remote so you can basically work from home for the weeks of training.

Cons

Pay is on the lower side starting at $45k. This can be tough in some situations, but I made it in Chicago and just lived within my means. The idea its physically impossible to live on 45-50k is dumb given the current wages across the country. I have several friends working in expensive areas that started with lower wages than I did. 2 year commitment and the $30k contract break. I actually did receive an offer during my 2nd year I wanted to leave for, but couldn't. This does suck but ultimately you know about it going in. I'm working for that company now so it's moot for me. Lack of input for where you get placed. Definitely true it's up to FDM on where you go and what client. They tell you that you have some say, but if they don't have a client in your area, you've got to pack up and move where they tell you. Tradeoff if you want a job I guess. Training is really fast paced. You've got to be willing to put in extra work to be successful.

Pros

It is a job that pays.

Cons

They will promise you opportunities that don't exist. The company they contract you to will promise you work that you will not be assigned. I was a Java Consultant with a masters degree in Math and certificate in full stack and I was shoved into a manual testing position that required zero coding and constantly dangled automation in front of my face. When I was asked to look at Selenium, I studied it in some of the copious amounts of downtime i had and was reprimanded during the next meeting for 'wasting company time'. I moved from Texas to New Jersey for my first position. After contracts with the company were terminated, I was pulled off my assignment only to be abruptly fired for "lack of geoflexibility" despite willingness to move to several places they do business including NYC and even Denver. There is no accountability from them as the only response they give is "the decision is final". There is no way to appeal a blatant lie. Their company has no integrity and side with business majors over people that know how chemicals and physics and electrical components work just seem like bad life decisions. They will say you can reapply but they won't hire you. They'd full of it at every angle.
