Pros
The people here are great. Everyone is friendly and helpful; there is a definite feeling of southern hospitality. Work hours are flexible and family or personal commitments are respected. They used to spend a considerable amount of time and money on employee training and development.
Cons
FMC has become an overgrown small company trying to imitate large company culture of business-first. This has led to a bloated and underqualified middle management. This group overcompensates by keeping secrets, leading to extensive rumors about topics that don't even warrant discretion. Promotion is increasingly based on favoritism or selecting people who are not threatening (i.e. mediocre) to their superiors. Case in point, several managers in my product line will not share the results of performance reviews with their employees. Everyone is "good". That is a disservice to the employees and the company. Discrimination against females. Ambitious females are often called "aggressive" and "too demanding". I've heard several mangers tell females that they "just want to see you smile more" and "don't want to see you unhappy" as performance feedback.
