Pros
In the past I have always worked for large, bloated companies. I was starting to believe the best I could hope for was a job that wouldn’t make me miserable or dehumanize me. I did not think a job that made me excited to get out of bed existed. At the risk of sounding like a cult member, FareHarbor made me do a 180. While it is not perfect, we have it great, and this is the best job I've ever had. The energy in the office is unlike anything I have ever witnessed. Taking the leap from a steady, corporate job to a startup was terrifying, but after I met the team it was a no brainer. Everyone is always ready to help, and there is constant collaboration. It is not just a job, we truly believe in what we are doing. Not once have I given my decision a second thought. The flexibility is unreal. While we have a few clear guidelines and rules in place, everyone is given the room to find what works best for them to get their job done. The day to day is really what we make of it. We are treated like adults (?!) and not children who need their hands held with constant supervision.
Cons
The first isn’t a con so much as a word to the wise. It may look easy and fun to outsiders, but this is HARD work. There are ebbs and flows with seasonality, and it can be trying at times to keep the intensity up. Growing pains are real. This is a young company, and we are often still figuring things out as we go. Silos have started to form, which has led to a disconnect between departments at times. As we continue to expand, this will only get worse without a more cohesive structure in place. Dead weight is sometimes kept around past its expiration date, which can be frustrating and distracting.
