Changing culture--too fast to keep talent? - Anonymous employee Farm Journal Employee Review

Pros

Usually a good work life balance. Some supervisors are very good about letting their teams work from home or leave early for appointments etc (as long as they are keeping up with their work). Small teams mean the ability to take on various projects you might not have the opportunity to otherwise. You wear lots of hats. If you are a valuable talent, it's clear that management wants to help you grow your career where possible (and ask you where you want to go forward). That being said...

Cons

Farm Journal was a skeleton crew before acquiring Vance and now resources are often stretched incredibly thin. It's difficult to keep job satisfaction up and it feels at times as if there is an "us vs them" mentality for people who are new to the company as opposed to original Farm Journal employees. Culture has changed quite a bit from that original "small, family-oriented company" and the work loads have increased significantly because of limited resources. Since Farm Journal tends to offer only an average benefits package and somewhat mediocre salaries, the result is your employees feels unappreciated and are constantly searching for a better job.

Thank you for taking the time to share this review! We are so glad that you are seeing all the positive changes in the way we operate. We also appreciate the comment about some unsteadiness. Rapid change can indeed cause some fatigue, and we will continue to encourage frequent communication, based on transparency, to address it.
