Not bad, though definite room for improvement. - Sales Associate/Cashier Five Below Employee Review

Pros

Working here is a lot of fun. There are excited kids bringing stuff to the register, we get really cool items in the store and some interesting candies as well. The 20% discount is nice, but is mentioned in most reviews here. If you can maintain any energy for a long period of time, this is a good job for you.

Cons

HOURS. The company doesn't give enough hours to have their company run efficiently, especially when they want their employees to care about the store (not at 5-15 hours a week). The children, while cute, often have parents that let them run amok through the store, making PLENTY of a mess. The resets seem random and don't really look to have much of a purpose when the back of the store is being reset (I can understand having the NOW section updated every few months as seasons change and back-to-school starts, but the back wall and craft sections don't really seem to be important. It only detracts time from employees who could otherwise be maintaining store appearance and customer relations).

Pros

-20% discount -med, dental, vision benefits -20-ish minimum hours per week -genuinely can be a fun store to work in when run well

Cons

-store managers have little to no oversight and cross professional boundaries often - hr is ineffective, document everything yourself, report to the EEOC -growth opportunities in the store are very limited and they will lowball you no matter what you do or sacrifice -crazy turnover because the expectations are unrealistic store managers lie about pay budget to everyone -more likely to hire teens and students because they are easier to take advantage of for little pay, only needs adult for when teens and students cannot work (night shifts, school days) - nearby stores, especially if in a strip mall or shopping center, like tj maxx have higher base pay, better benefits, better security, and more hour availability
