Pros

Management is typically more relaxed, but it all depends on your location.

Cons

Very bad pay, Assistant Store managers don't make much more than associates. Extremely large and unrealistic work load. Or completely dead and nothing to do. Both locations will pay the same regardless of sales volume. Spends money on Self check outs, but then made us go back to hand checkout 1 by 1. Then did not give the hours we used to have before self checkout. Making recovery and tasks impossible. Freight process is extremely inefficient, and is company policy. All work goes on the Merch manager and no one helps. You become backed up and as a Assistant Store Manager you are nothing but a box boy. Sets are made a year in advance. Yet they are always incorrect, wrong spacing, wrong or missing product. And unrealistic deadlines. Training is awful, trying to move up to anything higher than ASM is a buddy system and will be very unfair to others. Five Below doesn't appreciate you as a person, employee, or even the highest volume sales Store in your district. All they care about is opening new stores, and neglected employees pay and removed bonuses.

Pros

-20% discount -med, dental, vision benefits -20-ish minimum hours per week -genuinely can be a fun store to work in when run well

Cons

-store managers have little to no oversight and cross professional boundaries often - hr is ineffective, document everything yourself, report to the EEOC -growth opportunities in the store are very limited and they will lowball you no matter what you do or sacrifice -crazy turnover because the expectations are unrealistic store managers lie about pay budget to everyone -more likely to hire teens and students because they are easier to take advantage of for little pay, only needs adult for when teens and students cannot work (night shifts, school days) - nearby stores, especially if in a strip mall or shopping center, like tj maxx have higher base pay, better benefits, better security, and more hour availability
