Pros

Flagship Pioneering is different than any other place I have worked. People here have a genuine curiosity for science, as well as incredibly creative style. I am working with the brightest people in the biotech industry (at all levels!. As a result the work here is challenging and the bar for success is high. You are expected to do a lot. With that, you are also given the freedom and even challenged to find solutions to problems that may not even exist yet. While there is no set career progression (you are not going to come in, sit in a role for a couple years then automatically be promoted), there is also no limit to what you can do. There is a lot of work to be don here and as a result you are able to develop your career in many paths. I am involved in many projects outside the scope of my job description and continue to develop in these places.

Cons

There is an incredible distaste for bureaucracy here. Many people at Flagship have left established biotechs/pharmas for this reason. As a result, there aren't defined processes or streamlined systems. This facilitates quick decision-making; however there are times when it is unclear who owns making the decision.

Pros

A tremendous place to grow and work with collaborative and smart people. You are encouraged to experiment regardless of what team you are on. Pay is also great!

Cons

Some days are tough, we move fast, but that's better than staying complacent.

Pros

Really good summer fellowship, learned a lot. Nice benefits (free meals, activities etc)

Cons

Expected to work really hard. Most days at least 12-14 hours. Given the illusion of scientific freedom but then pigeon holed back into more narrow focus.
