Pros
I came in knowing nothing about the business but I got great training from some top senior guys, and three years and a few promotions and raises later, I'm moving to be closer to the head office, because I'm confident in my long-term success there.
A few Pros:
- The company has been around for 50+ years. It is growing, thriving, and stable.
- The office atmosphere is easygoing and relaxed, dress is informal, and mostly everyone is cooperative and friendly.
- The boss is usually there at the New York office and willing to have a quick chat with anyone who knocks on his door about whatever's on their mind, either hearing out good ideas or resolving problems.
- Even if you're full time, your schedule can be flexible if you need it to be, like some people who leave early to care for their families, or have other special considerations. Management takes work/life balance very seriously and doesn't unilaterally shift schedules around or arbitrarily change expectations.
- Their generous "employee purchase program" gives all employees steep discounts on all of Focus Camera's merchandise, including cameras, computers, TVs, and other expensive electronics.
Cons
There aren't a lot of good lunch options nearby, so brown-bagging it or ordering delivery is the norm.
