The Good and Bad of a Small-town Company - Front End Supervisor Food Depot Employee Review

Pros

I began working as a cashier my second semester of college; from the beginning, they have been wonderful about working around my constantly-changing school schedule while still giving me the occasional time off I requested as well. After roughly a year I was promoted to front-end supervisor and realised more and more the casual atmosphere the day-to-day runnings of the store hold. From the front end to the meat and produce departments, there is a strong sense of camaraderie between the staff, which translates in some cases to the regular clientele as well.

Cons

The casual nature of the company has its drawbacks as well. There is a large degree of variance from store to store in management style and quality, given the lesser scrutiny at a corporate level. With my store, this results in a great difference in management quality between the various managers and co-managers, depending on who is on duty at what time. Because of this, discipline can be difficult to carry out as a supervisor, as one cannot always count on being backed up by the senior manager.
