Pros

There's a good amount of knowledge to learn about microbiological practices, good coworkers make the job tolerable, ability to be cross-trained in multiple departments.

Cons

low pay, management expected a certain turnaround time so 11 hour shifts were common and expected, favoritism is rampant so certain individuals will likely be chosen to move up over others, technicians were constantly pulled into other departments so the workload was even greater for those still in main lab, management gives early shifts out like hotcakes making it so the rush of samples that come into the lab later on in the day shift is mostly taken on by the later shifts of which there is not a lot, new procedures will be implemented and no one is specifically told the changes for weeks (i.e. changing the incubator for certain tests, changing the agar used for specific tests, etc).

Food Safety Net Services Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. It is unfortunate to hear your concerns and the fact that you left FSNS. I have forwarded your post to the LM and RLM. We appreciate the opportunity to improve and create a culture where everyone is appreciated. I hope you took the time to respond to your exit interview as well. We take concerns seriously and investigate each one. Our employees and our customers are at the center of all we do. I wish you the very best in your future endeavors. Bob Cox, SVP HR.

Pros

Some growth opportunities available depending on location / current lab needs.

Cons

Since it’s part of certified group, upper management does not understand the individual needs of each lab enough to effectively run things. Mandatory overtime at most locations. Not a lot of explanation of how to do certain things or why they are done. Poor wages and terrible health insurance.
