Pros

The discount (50%) is favorable, and the product was very cute and unique when I first started with the company. The only thing that kept me around for 4 years were the friends I made in fellow associates. The second store manager I worked under was understanding of my school schedule.

Cons

In my 4 years at Fossil, I worked under 3 different Store Managers, and 8-10 assistant managers. The store morale from the top down was horrible, and I often felt disrespected by our head manager and district manager. Assistant mangers have the worst job of all, as they were often promised opportunities for growth but there wasn't anywhere for them to move up to. Associate opinion was never taken seriously, and nobody ever seemed to understand where we were coming from when we raised complaints. When there were HR issues, we would call multiple times per day but could never in touch with anyone to voice our problems to. Associates as a whole are taken advantage of. Pay was terrible, and after 4 years of working there I think my hourly wage went up by 92 cents. It wasn't uncommon to have new employees with no experience to be paid more than old associates. We were never given the opportunity to have a formal review with a manager, and thus were never given an opportunity to discuss our wage. Store technology is extremely behind-the-times. The product is no longer unique, which made it difficult to sell to customers. There came a time that our store was in jeopardy and needed to have substitute managers from other stores come to work with us. They were extremely disrespectful and treated us like trash. If you have self respect, please don't work for this company.

Was a good work environment. Wasn't too stressful.

Cons

Horrible repetitive music. Working during holidays was a mad house.

Pros

Company events are always fun. (Halloween is insane in the best way.) On-site gym, Starbucks, cafeteria with pretty good food. The employee sales and deep-discounts are really nice. Central Station is a really nice, pretty building with a parking garage.

Cons

Lots of micromanagement and unnecessary approval steps before anything can move forward; resulting in any changes moving at a glacial pace and often stalling for months and even years. Fossil manages and designs by committee and the HiPPO in the room always wins with little regard to facts and data. There's little communication at all levels of the company. Teams are extremely siloed and there's a complete lack of direction. It's also not unusual for leadership or stakeholders to flip-flop on their decisions. One meeting, they'll approve something; then turn around and claim they never saw or approved it. Then suddenly they liked the way it was, which they had been claiming never to have seen before. It's frustrating and defeating. Advancement and growth opportunities are very limited and often based on favoritism. There's almost zero recognition or metrics to demonstrate your worth. "Restructuring" and staff reductions happen regularly throughout the year and always in small batches to fly under the WARN act. They usually don't even acknowledge or comment on the layoffs internally either. It's as if they hope they did it quietly enough that no one will notice. Meanwhile, morale is practically nonexistent as everyone is always waiting for the next layoff and spends most of their time with their heads down. If they acknowledge the layoffs at all, they'll assure the company that they're "right-sized now" or that they're "done with layoffs" and then do it again.
