Pros

In the payroll Bureau, the Career progression/support is amazing. Fourth will Support you and pay for qualifications where required. There's a lot to learn in payroll - and after two years I still enjoy my job. Even though it is challenging at peak times! Salary increases are in your hands in Macclesfield. The Grading Review is fantastic as a principle and you can see what you need to do, to get the salary you want (have access too). Benefits are constantly being reviewed and made better which is amazing. The culture is just brilliant - we are like one big family! (cheesy as it sounds). The bureau Manager and Head of Bureau services always give credit where credit is due and are both approachable - not like the usual scary people in charge. Your personal life/personal issues are always treated with compassion and understanding and you can run out to the an appointment without 20 questions/made to make it back. Lastly - there's ALWAYS a free bar at a Fourth party!!!!

Cons

The money does not reflect the work done. Salaries in Macclesfield are low - considering we process salaries for many job roles, the difference is quite something! The grading review (As stated above) is great in principle but needs a huge review. A lot of un-reachable points for some and the monetary bandings are very low, considering the work we do. To do the same role - at another company - would result in a much higher Salary bracket. This does need work, because essentially people are leaving for more money which the puts more strain on us. We do a hell of a lot here - which is recognised by management (most of the time). Please reflect that in our salary opportunities! Life is becoming expensive for us all.

I'm very pleased that you recognise the improvements the organisation is making and the quality of the support system in place. Our career structure in the Bureau is designed to allow people to progress with us and enter the organisation at different levels. Because of this and the clarity around how people move up in the company, the individual very much has the opportunity to determine their own salary. However, we will continue to reflect on how we can best create new opportunities for growth and progression at Fourth. As you said, let's carry on in the direction we are heading!

Pros

Very few pros come to mind, there were some great people on the individual contributor level I worked with across multiple teams however many left or are on their way out.

Cons

This is a highly toxic and disorganized work environment. Leadership’s lack of knowledge, direction, and experience is apparent. When I started, leadership was disengaged and disconnected to everything. I noticed there was a sudden and obvious change in leadership’s approach where “urgent” asks from above were being requested with little to no context. Unrealistic and changing expectations started being communicated as the norm. This caused confusion, chaos, and burn out, resulting in extremely low morale across teams. Concerns and feedback were either ignored or people were penalized/suddenly terminated for speaking up. Lastly, it doesn’t go unsaid there is no work life balance or professional boundaries here. This is a work environment that sets people up for failure and can have a serious impact on overall well-being.
