Pros

good pay in the engineering department in the Denver area

Cons

If you're reading this because you are considering employment in at Frontdoor, be aware that the negative reviews on here are fully accurate. Lots and lots of employees in Denver have left recently, because they've realized they can get a job in a better working environment especially now that so many companies have gone remote. Even if you are not an engineer, if you work with them, these problems will also effect you. Back in June of 2020, I wrote a negative review on here about how bad the culture and meeting etiquette at this company is. It took them nearly a full year, a mass exodus from engineering, and other employees saying the same thing for them to realize that they should think about addressing the issue. As of this writing, that's all that's happened. They've acknowledged they're going to address it, but not how they're going to address it. So, keep that in mind for how much this company values its employees feedback. Oh and also one time, in an apparent last ditch effort for the CTO to reverse his negative image, they bought lunch for our team, but it came with the price of being forced to eat lunch on zoom while chatting with the CTO. 0/10 would not accept that lunch offer again. Post-covid, they're moving to a hybrid work from home / work in the office model. But since they never figured out how to have a good meeting culture when everyone was equalized by ALL being on zoom, I don't have high hopes that this will be a positive change once some employees are in the office some days, and others are at home. This is a much more complex situation to deal with than everyone being at home.

Pros

Good benefits Managers who are nice Company is doing well financially Coworkers are capable and generally very nice to work with

Cons

The development process is pretty similar to the one I used in my last job in 2012--nowhere close to CICD. Testing is done by QA, infra is owned by the platform team, BE is owned by BE team, FE is owned by FE team. There is a lot of bureaucracy and throwing things over the wall. Service architecture contains many layers of services. Most products lack automated tests and canaries. Production incident troubleshooting seems to involve casts of dozens. There are yearly layoffs and fairly frequent restructures. Benefits have been cut. I know that's very common these days in a tough job market, but the company has been posting record profits. There is a technical ladder, but once you advance beyond Sr Dev, there is little chance to code or be involved in day to day work.
