Pros
Pay is better than most Atlanta districts, school calendar fair (although no half days for conferences).
Cons
Where to begin? Do you like teaching in an environment with no formally-adopted curriculum or resources? Do you enjoy writing 7 page lesson plans that no one actually reads? Do you prefer staying an hour or more past contract time multiple days a week for pointless meetings? Then Fulton County Schools may be for you! All sarcasm aside, FCS is a disaster. It is extremely unorganized and working conditions are poor. Elementary school teachers have almost no planning time, are given no input on school decisions, and are expected to work well beyond a 40 hour workweek. The worst part is there isn't a real curriculum for any subject area except for Writing (Lucy Calkins). Although tax payer money has helped the district purchase Houghton Mifflin's Journeys and McGraw Hill's MyMath series, CSTs and admin won't let teachers use it because it's not "rigorous" enough (sure). Fulton County also doesn't seem to monitor schools with frequent, high turnover - our school lost about 50% of our staff this year, shouldn't upper administration be watching that? Seems like so many schools have principals that are out to boost their own resumes instead of supporting their teachers.
