Pros

You get to say you work on well-known toys and collectibles found on shelves everywhere. The creative department was relatively tight-knit with understanding middle managers. Funko was a great first studio job.

Cons

The "Funko Fast" philosophy means almost constant crunch with very little work-life balance. Managers were overworked. Advancement was nearly impossible with "budgetary" restrictions making promotions feel like almost arbitrary. Designers used to have more ownership of their product but an increased focus on profits over quality means less oversight. Leadership used to allow the creative department flexibility in working remote, but those leaders are gone and corporate announced a mandatory hybrid schedule with less than a month's notice with no choice on what days employees work.

Pros

The team you get to work with and grow with is the best part of the job. If you’re into the product, the employee discount is solid I suppose.

Cons

Near zero chance for career growth with this company, within the retail store itself or moving up to corporate. The company has been subject to frequent layoffs and “restructuring”. The retail store has had three different general managers (so far). There are associates that have been part time for years, yet working full time hours, receiving no benefits. The retail store doesn’t utilize its workers properly. Good, solid workers have jumped ship completely due to burnout, being stepped on, management refusing to correct toxic workplace behavior, and selective coaching. You’re promised the opportunity to grow, but denied the development to make that a reality.
