Pros

There were very little pros. I only stayed as long as I did because of the health benefits it provided for my family. If I had to identify one or two things it would be the following: - good, affordable benefits - since it’s a newer company, you’ll get to be a part of a lot of foundational projects and are there to help get things launched and off the ground which can be interesting.

Cons

The con list is too long to write in full detail, but the main one is that this company is founded and run by a small, impenetrable clique at the top that doesn’t care about anyone beneath them. When I say “beneath them”, I’m not just speaking of analysts or entry/mid level roles. I’m referring to anything under an SVP. Leadership treats everyone like cattle and in my 15+ years as a professional have never experienced such attitudes and general disdain for employees from leadership. They borderline run a caste system and refuse to even look in your direction if you’re anything less than an SVP. This alone should deter anyone from working at an organization. Some other honorable mentions: - EVERY single decision is top down. Teams are left with little to no autonomy to suggest improvements or guide projects unless they’re specifically requested by the leadership clique at the top. Senior leadership for the most part has only ever worked at Funko, or spent a majority of their career there and as a result are ironically both sheltered and inexperienced. - everything is “Funko fast” which is a negative descriptor the IT employees came up with to describe how things are done there. Extremely quickly, expensively, and incorrectly. During my 3 year tenure I saw multiple big budget projects that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars have to be stopped and scrapped simply because of mismanagement -little to no collaboration between teams cross functionally. Everyone seems to be competing with each other and no one goes the extra mile to help anyone. I’ve never heard “that’s not my job” from so many different people, so often despite the task or question at hand very much fitting their title or role. - terrible budgeting skills by leadership. Everything costs an inordinate amount of money unnecessarily due to inefficiencies and lack of experience from those at the top. When they spend too much, employees deal with the consequences. My last year there I saw THREE rounds of layoffs. Those layoffs of course didn’t impact any SVPs or higher. Just the ones at the bottom that have no say in what or how things get done. I had to leave the org after I saw how people were treated and the terrible severance packages they received (3 weeks pay). - One would think that with the constant influx of new people, innovation is at the forefront, but it’s quite the contrary. Given leadership, things will be done the same old (wrong) way despite how hard you try to change or improve things The list continues but hopefully that paints a picture of the madhouse that is Funko.

Pros

The team you get to work with and grow with is the best part of the job. If you’re into the product, the employee discount is solid I suppose.

Cons

Near zero chance for career growth with this company, within the retail store itself or moving up to corporate. The company has been subject to frequent layoffs and “restructuring”. The retail store has had three different general managers (so far). There are associates that have been part time for years, yet working full time hours, receiving no benefits. The retail store doesn’t utilize its workers properly. Good, solid workers have jumped ship completely due to burnout, being stepped on, management refusing to correct toxic workplace behavior, and selective coaching. You’re promised the opportunity to grow, but denied the development to make that a reality.
