Pros

It is a large company, but with a very small company experience. All of management is incredibly accessible and is always willing to help. Advisor/investment services is always just an email away, and can get anything done for you. Lots of support. Also great commission rates

Cons

Very challenging validation numbers. Underwriting can take a while sometimes.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. GCG takes a lot of pride balancing the best of big company resources with a small company feel, hence the "get anything done" culture. Underwriting can be a process that challenges everyone's patience from time to time (especially when you're waiting for your commission to come through). GCG does not control the underwriting process of our business partners or broker/dealer. Often when the case warrants, GCG can exert influence to speed up the process but ultimately can't make underwriting decisions independently.

Pros

Working at Alera Group Midwest (Formerly GCG Financial) is the best career move I have made. I have seen it grow from GCG Financial to Alera Group Midwest and with it, all of the exciting changes that have happened. Alera Group Midwest will let you go as far as you want to go in your career. All you have to do is share with them what you want to do with you career. They will help you map it out and help you achieve it. You just have to have the ambition and drive to put in the work. The leadership here will be beside you to back you up. The team you work with will collaborate with you for your clients to have a great client experience. I am not going to say it is all rainbows and sunshine, because we all know no place is. We have our little struggles at times, but it never anything major and nothing that doesn't make us stronger and better. We grow together. What I will say is that Alera Group Midwest takes their clients seriously and their employees seriously; but stops plenty of times along the way to laugh with all of us and to make sure that we are all heard, each and every one of us. If you want to be a part of something wonderful and build a career that you can be proud of, Alera Group Midwest is the place you want to be.

Cons

Alera Group Midwest, like any other company has downsides. If I had find them I would say that in the growth mode from GCG to Alera Group Midwest, we didn't anticipate some of the "hard feelings" the long timers would have at letting go of some of the previous way of doing things. Transitions are hard. For some, it has been tough and while the growth has been positive, Alera Group Midwest needs to recognize the feelings that may still be attached.

Pros

GCG strives to live by it's tagline of "Be Well, Do Well, Plan on it". Employees are not micro-managed but are empowered to take ownership in their roles and are encouraged to develop new skills and participate in continued education programs. The company is very community oriented and encourages employees to participate in charitable events through the monthly Generous Community Giving program. Benefits and additional perks such as a 70 minute paid lunch, birthdays and anniversary celebrations, flexibility to accomodate family needs, flexible work hours, jean days and wellness initiatives are a part of the family culture that makes this a great place to work. We work hard and play hard...Due to our CEO's strategic planning and foresight...GCG is growing and has survived some of the hardest times. GCG is about relationships and focusing on those relationships; client relationships, employee relationships and management relationships.

Cons

Due to being a mid-sized company there are fewer possible jobs to move into...career advancement is not readily available as it wold be in a larger company.
