Pros

Pay is decent, until they fire you to replace you with someone less experienced who will accept less compensation.

Cons

Terrible training, requests for clarification or support go unanswered, constant threat of punishment or termination for a constantly rotating list of minor details. CEO is essentially invisible, his essence only sensed by rounds of mass firings of tenured employees. GEICO saves money by putting offices in out of the way locations (the "Seattle" office is in Renton, for example) which are inconvenient for basically all commuters. Management flip-flops on work from home vs return to office. Absolutely disorganized, zero communication or transparency. GEICO has an insidious program wherein they recruit college students to volunteer, then offer them positions directly out of college. They fast track these young people with zero prior experience (so they don't know what a bizarre workplace it is), zipping them through the ranks toward management. So you might have been in a role for a year and a half, but a 22-year-old with no job experience is sitting next to you, idling away the mandatory couple of months in your role so that they can be your next supervisor. Because of this, many supervisors are immature, have no communication skills but think that they are "the cool one" because they talk with a TikTok influencer inflection (while not responding to your requests for assistance).

Pros

Decent pay and remote work.

Cons

Poor management at all levels, and high turnover in the IT department. Profit sharing was initially offered when I started in 2013 but disappeared after covid. Management laid off most of the IT staff that had the technical and insurance knowledge in favor of bringing in new staff to transition GEICO into a tech company. Not sure what the status of the IT department is in 2026.
