Pros

I really enjoyed my time working at GM Financial. There was open communication between leadership and the team. I felt like my voice mattered and was heard. I felt like my contributions to the team were valued and appreciated. I felt a great deal of ownership and pride over my work, which made my role feel very fulfilling. I felt like leadership was well organized, was committed to continuous improvement, and was both employee and customer focused. I didn't feel overloaded beyond my capacity and I felt like our team internal processes made sense. The atmosphere overall felt very positive.

Cons

Salary - Since I joined the team at entry level trying to pivot my career path, a lower salary was expected and fair at the time. I was benefitting from a large team and a lot of opportunities and space to learn. However, after a few years of experience, I surveyed the market and learned that other companies were offering much more for just a few years' in the role. PTO & Benefits - These were lower than average and could use improvement. The company I left for has Unlimited PTO, nearly free health care, and 4 months parental leave. Would've loved a comparable package at GMF.

Pros

I'm a senior-level software engineer, previously worked at tech companies, and this job is relatively easy for me. No on-call, work-life balance is good. I usually get everything done within 2-week sprints.

Cons

GMF is the true definition of work hard, not smart. There are so many dumb engineers. There was a time I had to work with non-technical teams like prod support, and it was quite frustrating. They wanted my team to build an automation so they didn't have to work manually as if anything is possible and there is no limitation within the company. I didn't even create a backlog item as it was a waste of time.
