Too much stress for what should be an easy job - Commercial Lending GM Financial Employee Review

Pros

GMF offers a pretty flexible schedule, so it’s easy to work around appointments and the odd day off. Some managers are great to work for and care about your development. They have established guidelines, so you know your role within the company.

Cons

Some managers are terrible and have no sense of how to develop employees. They shuffle managers at random to give them the opportunity to learn new skills, but the same is hard to do as an analyst. Seeking outside training or education isn’t really embraced, even though they say they celebrate continuing education. There is a “this is the way it’s always been done so that’s how we do it now” attitude, and it’s hard to bring fresh ideas to the table. Even though they send out employee engagement surveys yearly, nothing seems to change.

Pros

I'm a senior-level software engineer, previously worked at tech companies, and this job is relatively easy for me. No on-call, work-life balance is good. I usually get everything done within 2-week sprints.

Cons

GMF is the true definition of work hard, not smart. There are so many dumb engineers. There was a time I had to work with non-technical teams like prod support, and it was quite frustrating. They wanted my team to build an automation so they didn't have to work manually as if anything is possible and there is no limitation within the company. I didn't even create a backlog item as it was a waste of time.
