Pros

The direct managers at this company are exceptional advocates, and every independent contributor aspires to fulfill their job responsibilities with integrity and take pride in their work.

Cons

It is crucial for me to share my experience to enable prospective employees to make well-informed decisions. I was ultimately disappointed by the company's lack of dedication to professional development and growth opportunities. One of the most frustrating aspects of my time at GMF was the absence of a structured professional development program. Despite the company discussing its implementation for years, there was a failure to take action and invest in employees' growth and skills. Consequently, the work environment remained stagnant, impacting morale and motivation. Moreover, opportunities to attend industry-relevant conferences, which could have benefited independent contributors, were rarely provided. Another disheartening aspect was the lack of proactive and responsive senior leadership. Despite receiving numerous valuable suggestions for improvement from independent contributors, the leadership team showed little willingness or capability to implement necessary changes or engage in constructive dialogue. This created an environment where employees input felt undervalued, stifling dissenting opinions. The lack of action and transparent communication regarding critical issues left employees feeling unheard and unappreciated. Personally, these circumstances fueled my doubts about the existence of advancement opportunities within the company. It became evident that senior leadership lacked the autonomy to make decisions for their own departments or drive meaningful change. Important decisions were made without proper consultation, data evidence, or explanation, leaving employees disconnected from the company's vision and goals. This lack of transparency gradually eroded the confidence and motivation of entire departments. While imperfections are expected in any company, the ineffective leadership at GMF had a significant negative impact on employee satisfaction and the overall value proposition of the organization. In order to drive change and prove your worth, the company expects you to compromise ethical business standards by providing unredacted personal documentation of external offer letters. It is apparent that the company's actions and expectations lack ethical integrity and a genuine commitment to acting in good faith. The company culture underwent a drastic transformation over the past year. Employees are implicitly expected to refrain from expressing dissent, unquestioningly comply with directives, and overlook the challenges and issues faced by the organization. Disconcertingly, senior leadership disseminated messages to departments regarding "best practices" for working parents, including dismissive statements like "your absence won't matter to your kids; they won't even notice. You can have a relative send you a video at events, your kids don't care." Ironically, employee performance at GMF is evaluated based on fostering inclusivity, making data-driven decisions, and driving change and innovation. However, the company itself fails to adhere to these principles. Instead, employees are expected to compromise their own values and make sacrifices in the face of hypocrisy.

Pros

I'm a senior-level software engineer, previously worked at tech companies, and this job is relatively easy for me. No on-call, work-life balance is good. I usually get everything done within 2-week sprints.

Cons

GMF is the true definition of work hard, not smart. There are so many dumb engineers. There was a time I had to work with non-technical teams like prod support, and it was quite frustrating. They wanted my team to build an automation so they didn't have to work manually as if anything is possible and there is no limitation within the company. I didn't even create a backlog item as it was a waste of time.
